Welcome to Glishio – Grammar Puzzles, Part 2.

The exercises are the second part of a three-part grammar course based on the book ‘Grammar Puzzles’ by John Langridge. They’re the right level for B1 (Intermediate) and B2 (Upper-Intermediate) English learners, but learners at other levels who want to improve their grammar are encouraged to try them.

There are 50 exercises on a wide range of topics in Part 2. Every exercise has a text in English and 5 puzzles, similar to jigsaw puzzles, but with sentences instead of pictures. The sentences are in pieces, and most of the pieces are in the wrong order. Your challenge is to put all the pieces into the right order, so the sentences make sense and are grammatically correct.

How the Exercises Work

For each exercise:

(i) Read the text and try to understand it.
(ii) Read the words on each piece in the first puzzle.
(iii) Think about the first and last pieces in the puzzle. They’re in the right positions in the sentence, but the others aren’t.
(iv) Type the words so they’re all in the right order.
(v) Make sure the sentence – or sentences – make sense and are grammatically correct.
(vi) Repeat steps (i) to (v) for all the other puzzles.
